Tell Congress to Pass Popular, Bipartisan Trails Bills!

Sample Letters:

The Hon.

United States Senate

Washington, DC 20510

Dear Sen. X:

As an active horseman in your state, I urge you to pass two important bills that will improve the outdoor experience for all Americans:  the Restore Our Parks Act (S. 3172) and the Recreation Not Red Tape (RNR) Act (S. 1633).  Both of these important bills establish cost effective methods to address the nation’s backlogged trail maintenance projects and promote recreational riding and all other outdoor activities on public land.

S. 3172, the Restore Our Parks Act, supports the National Park Service (NPS) and creates a revenue stream by dedicating funds from energy development projects to support the maintenance of trails under its jurisdiction.   The RNR Act, S. 1633, creates regulatory efficiency by authorizing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to form cooperative agreements with private parties to promote the role of volunteers in trail maintenance.  The bill also authorizes the Department of Agriculture (USDA) and BLM to develop an interagency trail management plan that will assure uniform maintenance standards for trails crossing jurisdictional lines between the two agencies.  With respect to the RNR Act, I urge you to sign-on as a co-sponsor to underscore your dedication to outdoor activities for all Americans.

Both trails bills tap into already existing resources to remedy trails maintenance challenges that threaten to undermine the outdoor experience for many Americans.  Please pass common-sense trails legislation before the end of the year!

Regards,
