TAKE ACTION: Join Business, Faith Leaders to Call for Indoor Gatherings and to Safely Reopen the Economy

UPDATE: On October 5th, Dr. Sara Cody announced a revised Public Health Order that would allow for indoor dining and indoor gatherings at 25% capacity, once the County moves into the Orange Tier 3. While we are grateful that the County is listening to our petition, the Orange Tier 3 should allow for indoor operations at 50% capacity, so we are still not completely consistent with the state's guidelines. We urge you to continue signing this petition to continue the advocacy for a safe reopening of the economy and for indoor religious assembly.

As a collective voice for the business and faith communities, we are urging you to join our letter-writing campaign to encourage lawmakers and government officials to safely re-open the economy: allow indoor gatherings for places of worship (at 25% capacity); indoor dining (at 25% capacity); and to allow certain personal care services (such as estheticians) to safely reopen. These businesses and places of worship that could safely reopen and welcome back their customers/followers are not being allowed to do so — despite following safety guidelines from local, state, and the federal government. Since the middle of March the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way of life for everyone and unlike any economic recession in the past, the one caused by COVID-19 has affected all sectors. These small businesses and places of worship have been shut down for 7+ months and may never return, if we don’t proactively find ways to safely reopen.

Santa Clara County and the State are on different pages regarding the safe reopening of the economy and allowing meaningful gatherings in houses of worship, indoor dining, esthetician services, and many others. While we understand that there are county-specific needs and measures to consider, it is confusing and disheartening when there is such a discrepancy between state and local guidelines on safe gatherings.

Our coalition wants to be part of the solution in finding a responsible balance between life with COVID-19 and meaningful, authentic gatherings. We understand that COVID-19 will be with us for the foreseeable future, but we cannot allow the virus to dictate how our county opens. Rather, we should take all necessary precautions and implement protocols that will help us to safely reopen our economy. This is even more important now because winter is quickly approaching on top of the poor air quality caused by the wildfires.

Please join our coalition's letter writing campaign to share your support for safely reopening the economy now!
