[Brief personal story about your health and experience with the recent extreme heatwave.]
North Carolina has one of the highest heat-related death rates in the U.S., especially in Eastern and rural North Carolina. Yet, North Carolina workers don’t have basic protections against deadly heat, and the climate crisis is intensifying this hazard.
The Asunción Valdivia Heat Illness and Fatality Prevention Act, or HR 3668, was just introduced in Congress and is our best chance to change this. This bill will protect workers by ensuring they have access to water, rest and shade, or a cool environment during dangerously hot days.
This legislation could help ensure workers won’t die from extreme heat conditions in the future. I urge you to support HR 3668 and protect the health of North Carolina workers from extreme heat.
